Creating Your Own Inspiration

For 2015 I made a mood board also known as an inspiration board. I wanted to see if making an inspiration board would help me with my goals, and to my surprise it did.

By creating a mood board I was:

1. Able to look forward to the upcoming year.
Your mood board should represent your values, goals, and be filled with things or people that inspire you. This helps you to look forward to the adventures that lie ahead.

This year I want to get at least one tattoo I’ve been bouncing ideas around in my head for years and I finally know what I want. I put the ideas in my mood board. I want to get a love in an infinite sign on my wrist it’s to remind me of self love because I’ve had to fight body image my whole life. I finally got to a place where I can truly love myself for everything I am. I want that tattoo to be a reminder to myself.

2. It helped me visualize my goals.
I just function better when I can see what I’m supposed to do or where I want to be. If you add pictures to your board it helps you get that visualization of your goals and what you hope to achieve.

For instance this year on mood board I put in two cutely decorated dorm rooms because hopefully in the Fall I’ll be going to a 4-year university and be living on my own for the first time. It helps me visualize what I need to do to get there.

3. It inspires me.
When lack of inspiration hits, self-doubt, stress, or depression I’d look at my mood board and was motivated to keep going.  It was like having a pep talk with myself. I’d read my quotes it helped me stay grounded.

This year they’re more quotes on my mood board, which help me stress less, be happy and take adventures. It’s something I lacked through most of last year so this year I’d like to be reminded to do those things.

Questions to ask yourself when making a mood board:

1. What do I want to accomplish this year and how can I represent that visually?

2.  What’s on my bucket list this year?

3. What quotes inspire me or motivate me?

4. What are my main focuses or focus of this year ?

Answering those questions will really help you set the mood for your board. Now it’s all about finding pictures and quotes and putting it together. I found all my images and quotes on Pinterest. I also used magazines as well. It’s a fun way to set your goals.

What would be on your mood board?
