A Letter To My 13-Year-Old Self

This is not what I had planned for today's blog post but it's always good to expect the unexpected and just go with the flow of things. 2 years ago today I graduated from high school. 2 years may not seem like a long time but for me, it's more like a lifetime ago. The person I was then and the person I am now are completely different, looking back it amazes me how much someone can change over a few years. I wanted to make a letter to my 13-year-old self who has just started her high school journey.

Dear incoming freshmen,

I know you're scared but trust me high school is nothing compared to how they portray it in movies and tv shows. High school is not that bad in fact, you're going to miss it when these 4 years are up. It's your first day and you want to stay in this bubble of familiarity and comfort but don't. You're going sit with the wrong class for your first period and think "God this is embarrassing" but don't worry it happens several times after that you get used it.

You're going to pass people in class or in the hallway who seem insignificant but some of them are going to shape your life in ways you couldn't imagine. You meet your best friend in your first-period class she happens to be in all your other class as well. She's going to push you, inspire you, hurt you, and challenge you. You're going to fight there will be a time when you hate her but one thing is for sure you two never stop caring and loving each other.  She's also going to introduce you to another amazing person who's going to be a huge part of your life. Over time, you're going to learn that people change and grow apart. It's going to hurt you to think that people you loved so much are no longer in your life but you're going to be okay. All I can say is appreciate the people that stuck by you and don't fret about the ones who didn't.

I know this journey through high school isn't going to be easy. Life is going to throw you curveballs you never thought you could handle. However you're strong, you're brave, you're smart, and you're patient. You also have the best support system a girl could ever find so I know you can make it through anything. You're going to fall in and out of love, you're going to test your limits, you're going to break the rules, you're going to break hearts, you're going to make mistakes, you're going to fail, but most of all you're going to survive. Every bad thing that happens will feel like hell and you'll want to just sleep forever. However, there is so much more out there for you. They'll be new loves, new break-ups, new friends, and new experiences worth living. You can make it through today and you'll make it through the rest of your life.

With Love,

Your 21-year-old self
