Creating The Ultimate Class Schedule

In college, you're responsible for making your class schedule along with what to take there's how many classes to take. The one thing I learned that some advisor's who help you register aren't the best at "advising". I learned through trial and error of setting up my schedule. So I thought I'd share those tips today on the blog.

1. Who's paying for college?
This is important because it determines how many classes you're able to take. You're being charged per credit hour so if a class is 3 credits you multiply how much they're charging you per credit hour by 3. Ex: My current college charges: $109.00 per credit hour so a 3 credit hour class totals: $327. Of course, that's only one class so you add that to how many other classes you'll be taking. So if you're paying out of pocket this is something you should be considering this determines how many classes you 'll take. However, if you receive financial aid or student loans then they have a minimum requirement of credit hours you're supposed to take per semester which usually is 12 credit hours but it may vary.

2. Find your degree program
Every university should have a guide of all the classes you're required to take for your major. If not then talk to your advisor on what is required for you to take. This will help guide you to what classes you need to be signing up for. It's also a great way to personally keep track of how many classes you have left to take.

3. Read the courses descriptions
Now that you figured out how many classes you're going to take and what is required for your major it's time to start choosing some classes. I choose classes that sound like something I'd be interested in. I believe this is the fun part of college. You have the power to choose anything. If you wanted to take a philosophy class or a literature class. You should go for it. It's a great way to expand your horizons. Another thing to keep in mind is when classes are available. Sometimes only certain classes will be available in Spring, Fall, or Summer. So make sure you fit everything you want to take in your schedule.

Build Your Life Around Something Of Importance

This is one of the biggest struggles I've been going through for over a year. I've been contemplating what I want to major in and ultimately what I want my career to be. I know college is about discovering all that and growing eventually you'll get there. However, I'd like to have a clue on where I want to be. This quote has been helping to navigate that. I want a career I'm passionate about. I want a career that's versatile and always has something new for me. I want to wake up happy to work. I want to live to work not work to live. I know some people are thinking "That's naïve to think like that. So millennial of you to think that's how it works."  However, it's not that naïve some people are able to do that so why not me. I believe accomplishing your dreams are possible if you put effort into it. You can't dream of something then pursue something that's the complete the opposite. I think it's great that millennials have decided to peruse what makes them happy. I think that's the most important thing in my life to pursue is something that truly brings me joy whatever that may be.

What's imporant in your life?

Starting From Rock Bottom

If you haven't seen the J.K. Rowling movie I suggest you do. J.K. Rowling went through a lot of struggles in her life to get to the successful book writer/screenplay writer she is today. If you would've told her the book she was working on about teenage wizards would be seen all over the world and be such a hit not only for children but adults as well I'm sure she would've thought, you were crazy. However, that's exactly what happened, no matter her obstacles in life she was able to work and persevere and look where it got her. It's such an inspiring story for single mothers, women, and anyone going through hard times. We've all been in situations where we thought "I've definitely hit rock bottom" instead of thinking of it as a negative thing we should be thinking of it from a more positive perspective. Rock bottom is a great place to start creating a life you want. If you think about it hitting rock bottom is giving you a chance to start all over again. You have a fresh canvas to paint on how will you use it to create something beautiful.

3 Perfect Date Night Movies

Summer has finally arrived, it'd be ideal to spend the summer days soaking up the sun's rays. However, with the humid weather we've been having I prefer to spend some of the summer days indoors being nice and cool. On those humid days where you really just can't take the heat it'd be a great time to grab your SO or some girls and initiate a movie date night. If you need some ideas spicing up the typical movie date some ladies over at the Dating Divas have some great ideas you can use here.

My boyfriend and I are huge movies buffs so each week we have a movie/tv show date night via Skype. We each take turns picking movies each week I think we've seen a lot of amazing movies that both of us wouldn't normally watch on own. So it's been a great way to see new things. I thought why not share our top four favorite movies with you guys. Ladies everything has been boyfriend approved. So it's a plus.

1. Everything Before Us
We just saw this one over the weekend. My boyfriend is not the one to cry over movies but this one was his exception. It's really heartfelt and I think captures relationships perfectly. The movie is about two couples who are working through their relationships with each other. This movie has a very interesting concept to relationships. The government rates their relationships similar to a credit score called a DEI score. It's based off break-ups, how long have you've been with a person, infidelity , and who's to blame for the break-up. They think that by doing this it'll make love and relationships easier but as the movie unfolds we see love is much more complex than we make it out to be. You can find this movie on Netflix.

It'll Happen When It Happens

This summer will be the busiest summer I ever had from spending time with my boyfriend and family to packing up my things preparing for my big move. I'm really excited and nervous about all the changes going on in my life. I'm the type of person that rather have everything just happen already instead of waiting in anticipation. When my boyfriend told me "It's going to hit you soon" he was referring to me leaving my family to move 7 hours away. That's when I realized it will hit me soon but it'll hit me when I'm moved into my dorm by myself. I wanted to cry because I'm in a rush to pack everything 2 months in advance. I've been in the process of cleaning out my clothes and everything that I haven't stopped to appreciate the moments with my family while I have them. So this summer I don't want to rush anything, everything will fall into place. I want to be in the moments while I'm in them. I don't want to look back and regret that I spent most of this summer packing or working.

What are your plans this summer? How will you be just letting things take it's own course?

Compare No More

I unconsciously compare myself to other women, and then I start feeling inadequate. So this quote really hits home for me. I was listening to a podcast a few months ago about How to Stop Jealous in Your Relationship by Matthew. He said when we compare ourselves to other women or men in our partner’s lives if we have more to offer than them then we’re not threatened by them, however, once we don’t add up to the person we’re threatened and that’s what causes our jealous. He had a solution for this, he questioned what do you have to offer.

June Aspirations Link-up

Fairy Lights & Dreams and The Clutter Box Monthly Aspirations

Welcome to another Monthly Aspirations Link-up hosted by Angela from The Clutter Box Blog and me. This is a place where you can share what your goals are each month. We created this link-up in hopes to build a community that encourages, supports, and motivates each other. The link-up will launch the first of each month and will be open for two weeks. So feel free to add your monthly goals to the link-up below.

Summer is officially here and although I love the outdoors the summer heat is literally exhausting me and the summer just started. This month and summer, in general, is going to be fairly busy for me so hopefully I'm able to get some of these goals accomplished.  Tomorrow I'll be headed to Cedar Falls, Iowa for orientation and then two weeks from now I'll be headed to Clive, Iowa to spend the summer with my boyfriend all the way till July which includes a trip to California to see his family. As soon as I get back it'll be lots of packing for college the following month. It'll be fun but it'll also be busy. So I'd love to accomplish some goals this summer.

Last month I did manage to accomplish a few goals. I feel like the time just went too fast and before I knew it, it was June. I hadn't accomplished everything I wanted to but I'll take some goals over none.
